The Story of EPG

Municipal water suppliers add chlorine or other chemicals to control water-borne diseases. Chemically treated water is safe to drink but, unfortunately, it often has an objectionable taste and odor. High quality, good tasting water has become an important part of a healthy lifestyle and consumers are choosing the fresh taste of filtered water. Some consumers choose "point of use" filtration systems for their homes. Others prefer to purchase water that has been commercially filtered.

Because municipal water supplies may contain extraneous organic and inorganic substances, manufacturers increasingly require purified water as part of their production processes. Filtration systems for manufacturing usually require large volumes of highly purified water.

Environmental Products Group, International, a Limited Liability Company (EPG Int'l, LLC) was formed in 1990 to market water filtration systems in the United States and worldwide. Residential, commercial, and light industrial systems were developed. Several turnkey water treatment systems and desalination projects have been installed in the U.S. and other countries, including a large bottling plant in Vietnam. The manufacture of water treatment systems has continued as a base of operation for EPG.

Since 1992, EPG has expanded from marketing water filtration systems to design, build, and install many different types of water treatment packages. In 1994 the firm began selling retail water stores under the Water Gourmet brand name. Over fifty stores have been built. These stores provide high quality drinking water for individual consumers and a profitable business for the store owner. At a Water Gourmet store, customers use their own water bottles or purchase those offered by the store. The bottles are then filled with water that has passed through a filtration system designed by EPG. Also, where available, the customer can enjoy a Smoothie or arrange for home delivery. Most Water Gourmet stores offer other related products and accessories as well as twenty-four hour dispensing through water vending machines.

Water Gourmet Stores

The EPG retail water store is a novel approach that makes a high tech water purification system visible to customers through a window or sliding glass door. EPG offers a full retail water and accessories store with a turnkey water filtration system. These stores are independently owned and operated but maintain quality assurance and standard of operations agreements with EPG. The following EPG services and facilities are available:

Selection of a retail site and lease negotiations.

Options, e.g., a juice bar, and/or a bottling plant for home or office deliveries.

Coordination of tenant improvements, fixture installation, and inventory delivery.

Equipment design, manufacture, installation, and service.

Start up advertising, training for the owner/operator, and follow-up support.

Store owners have the options of outright purchase, independent financing, leasing EPG equipment through a leasing company, or purchasing the equipment with financing from the Small Business Administration (SBA). Leasing or financing enables EPG to place equipment with the least impact on a store owner's overall cash flow. The SBA program has benefited several current store owners. However, several requirements are necessary to qualify for an SBA loan.

Sufficient collateral, typically a home or business, to guarantee the loan.

A written business plan. If the customer does not have an acceptable plan, the EPG staff will prepare a plan or customize the owner's plan.

A signed lease and a paid deposit for the chosen location.

A signed contract with EPG and a thirty percent deposit for construction and equipment.

A SBA loan application.

Water Filtration Systems

Effectiveness, reliability, and cost control and NSF dictate choices among components in a filtration system. All equipment meets EPA requirements and, when needed, includes changes for countries that use a variety of voltages. The product line is extremely competitive in price and all systems include an eighteen-month manufacturers' warranty.

The water filtration systems include a full range of water filtration products including point-of-use and point-of-entry systems, from portable units with the capacity of a few gallons per day to very large desalination units of several thousand gallons per day. The following technologies are used in various systems:

Silver impregnated granular activated carbon

Reverse osmosis

Ultraviolet technology

Water softeners

Desalination units

Ozone generators

Marketing Support and Training

EPG tailors a marketing strategy and campaign to help new stores with effective sales of the company's water and retail products. Sales training and product updates are suggested to independent store owners to maintain high quality and an excellent level of services.

The Vision for a New Millennium

The next step in improving water quality is the use of water from natural springs. Spring water has a unique and highly desirable mineral content. When offered the choice, perceptive consumers soon discover the difference and often elect to pay a premium for the delicious taste of spring water.

Spring water of unparalleled taste and quality has been found at Lida Springs, Nevada. This valuable resource has recently become available for commercial development. Initial drilling to pump this pristine water in commercial volume has already begun. Facilities for collection, transportation, filtration, and bottling have yet to be developed. As soon as it is available, Lida Springs Water will be distributed and sold in Water Gourmet stores in California. However, another rich market awaits development. When funding becomes available, the expertise of the EPG team will immediately go to work building a network of Water Gourmet stores in Las Vegas. These two markets alone make up the fastest expanding water sales markets in the United States. EPG plans to capture this rising wave.

In summary, EPG is dedicated to staying at the threshold of design concepts for the filtration of water. With a sincere desire for a better tomorrow and in keeping with an entrepreneurial spirit, EPG continually looks for new applications for its line of water filtration equipment.
